Structural Engineer III – New Haven, CT

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Structural Engineer to join our team in New Haven, CT.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed plans and construction documents for the assigned task
  • Perform engineering calculations pertaining to and in support of the detailed plans and construction documents developed
  • Perform structural analysis including load ratings
  • Develop contract specifications and preparations of contract bid documents
  • Coordinate various discipline of design and payment items within the construction documents
  • Supervise the preparation of construction cost estimates (Engineer’s Estimate)

Provide all project deliverables to client on time, and keep a record of all submissions
  • Approve billings to client, overtime, expense reports, etc. for each project. Including monitoring the spending of any sub-consultants
  • Record scope changes, client initiated or otherwise, so that additional fees may be negotiated then discuss with Virginia Operation Manager to ensure he has confirmed changes. Subsequently, you will notify the client of changes in scope, and prepare estimates for additional design fees
  • Keep assigned Supervisor informed of project progress and ensure terms of contract are followed
  • Attend public meetings and /or hearings as necessary

Requirements:

  • BS in Civil Engineering; VA PE License
  • Minimum of 15-20 years of experience in analysis and design on bridge projects in accordance with Federal and State codes
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience with VDOT design standards and current state of practice
  • Minimum 10 years of experience supervising staff and managing projects
  • Experience managing client relationships and pursuing projects in VA with VDOT and County DPWs
  • Excellent communications skills and the demonstrated ability to work well in cooperative, team environments
  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills
  • Proven ability to perform in a management capacity
  • Must be knowledgeable of industry practices and regulations, as well as current technology and how it can be effectively utilized on the project
