March 15, 2016

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Henry “Hank” B. Hyatt, 96, Chief Electrical Engineer of Hardesty & Hanover for more than three decades. He died February 27 at his home in Ithaca, NY. He was renowned for his ability to lead the design, inspection, innovation, modernization and development of industry standards for movable bridges. During his career he engineered more movable bridge electrical systems than almost anyone in the country including bridges that set world records for size and load to lift, such as the Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge over the Delaware River and the Burrard Bay Inlet Bridge in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Hyatt was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and New York University.

Hank Hyatt was a mentor to scores of engineers, who now serve as leaders in the movable bridge industry. He truly exemplified “the Hardesty & Hanover way” – a great engineer, a great leader and mentor, and a great friend.
